Anchorage The South Wolverines defeated the Bartlett Golden Bears in 4 sets to take the 2019 ASAA 4A state volleyball title. The Homer Mariners fought its way out of the loser's bracket to claim the 3A state title over the Kenai Kardinals.
South had its work cut out for it against a tough Bartlett team, and dropped the first set right off the bat. But the Wolverines battled back and won 3-1.
"We're a family. We're so bonded,"senior Sarina Gribbon said. "It means so much to win with this team."
"It's a dream come true," Mariner senior Marina Carroll said. "We've had so many ups and downs, and just to be here, it's insane."
Homer went to five sets, beating Kenai in the 2nd and 3rd sets, and then forced a first to 30 final match, which they won 30-23.
