ANCHORAGE (KTUU) — Special Olympics Alaska flew down to compete in the nation-wide USA games being held in Seattle on Monday.
Homer's Jody Herd took first place in bowling singles, and Fairbank's Demiko Colbert took second in the 100 meter run.
Sunday was also a special day for Alaska’s Ayesha Abdul-Jilllil, as she delivered the athletes oath at the opening ceremonies in front of a crowd of thousands of people at Husky Stadium in Seattle.
“I've made so many new friends and even got my dream job, working for Special Olympics Alaska,” screamed Abdul-Jilllil to a roaring applause.
Special Olympics USA Games will continue through Friday.
