The Fishing Report: August 2, 2018 -- Silvers are showing up

Mat Su Valley


  • Montana Creek: Dolly Varden and Arctic Grayling are fair. Silvers are in.

  • Willow Creek: Silvers are beginning to show. Rainbow Trout fishing is good

  • Deshka: Anglers are catching Silver and Pink Salmon at the mouth

  • Eklutna Tailrace: Silvers starting to come in.

  • Stocked Lakes: Rainbow Trout fishing is excellent. Try Reed Lake or Rocky Lake

  • Susitna Drainage: Silver, Chum, and Pink Salmon fishing is strong

Anchorage


  • Ship Creek: Silvers are in. Try vibrax or cured salmon roe under a slip-bobber

  • Stocked Lakes: Mirror Lake fishing has been great in Chugiak. Campbell Point and Cheney Lakes are producing Rainbow Trout

  • Campbell Creek: Fishing for Silvers is open. Trout and Dolly Varden fishing has been excellent

  • Bird Creek: Few Silvers have been caught. Anglers are catching Pinks throughout the tide

Kenai

  • Prince William Sound: Lingcod fishing is great. Kings continue to be caught

  • Lower Kenai: Closed for Sockeye Salmon effective August 4

  • Russian River/Upper Kenai: Closed for Sockeye Salmon on the Kenai effective August 4th. Russian River is still open for Sockeye fishing

  • Kenai & Kasilof Rivers: Kenai dipnetting has been closed. Kasilof has been good

  • Anchor, Ninilchik, Starski, Deep Creek: Dolly Varden and Steelhead/Rainbow Trout opened August 1st. Steelhead/Rainbow trout catch & release only

  • North Gulf Coast: King Salmon fishing is slowing. Coho Salmon is slowly improving

  • Lower Cook Inlet: Kings are slowing. Halibut have been steady. Silvers in the Lagoon
