Thunderbirds' Colton Herman named 2018 Alaska football Gatorade Player of the Year

ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - East's Colton Herman continues to rack up the accolades.

Not only did he help the Thunderbirds win the ASAA Division I state football championship this year, but he's also been named the 2018-19 Alaska Gatorade Football Player of the Year, the Gatorade Player of the Year program announced earlier this month.

The 6-foot, 190-pound running back and defensive back rushed for 615 yards and seven touchdowns this season.

He averaged 13.1 yards per carry. And we aren't even talking about kickoff and punt returns.

Looking at those stats, he averaged 44.9 yards on kickoff returns and 30.1 yards on punt returns. He also scored three special team touchdowns this season.

Moving over to defense, Herman recorded 46 tackles, four interceptions and returned two fumbles for scores.

Herman has maintained a weighted GPA of 3.62 throughout high school. He is still undecided as to where he will go to college.
