Top female flycaster visits Anchorage with a mission to draw more young people to the sport
Most fly fishermen have years of practice on them. Maxine McCormick is a world champion at just 15 years old.
"I really want a lot of kids to get into it because that makes it really fun," McCormick says with a smile.
McCormick and her coach, Chris Korich are in Anchorage this week to promote their sport of fly fishing and a book that Maxine is a part of, The Girl with the Flyrod.
Written by Cecilia Kleinkauf, it details how Maxine got into fly fishing and where she hopes to take the sport.
"She really knows what she's doing and she wants to keep doing it," Kleinkauf says with a grin. "As the book says, she wants to go and help the other young people start fly fishing."
McCormick and her coach have events all week if you missed them this weekend. Starting on Monday, June 10, they'll have a lunch and book signing at Fiishewear from 11:00 - 12:30.
