ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - The climb continues for the University of Alaska Anchorage Women’s basketball team, ranked No. 4 in the latest Women's Basketball Coaches Association polls, and No. 3 in the Div. II Conference Commissioners Association poll.
The UAA women have beaten their first six opponents by a combined 110 points, and are with the help of 2018-19 GNAC Preseason Player of the Year Hannah Wandersee grabbing 6.5 rebounds per game and 13.5 points per game.
Big road tests lie ahead for UAA, heading to Central Washington and Northwest Nazarene. The CWU Wildcats are undefeated, regionally ranked fourth, and have beaten their opponents by just over 20 points per game. The NNU Nighthawks are nationally ranked 15th and have not lost this season.
"The thing is, when you get a bunch of seniors and you're a team that's dominated the league like we have, those people have us circled on their calendar,” said Seawolves' head coach Ryan McCarthy. “And they've been losing to us, year after year after year.”
On top of a tough road schedule, the Seawolves will be without their second leading scorer Yazmeen Goo, who's battling a hand injury. They’ll be looking for big games from Tara Thompson who’s their leading three-point shooter.
UAA tips off at Central Washington on Thursday, November 29, and Saturday, December 1, at Northwest Nazarene.
