UAA basketball starts 2019 in the win column

ANCHORAGE (KTUU) — The UAA women’s basketball team defeated Simon Fraser 70-55 Thursday behind a career-high 20 points from Safiyyah Yasin.

“The hoop felt big,” Yasin said after the game.

The 14th ranked Seawolves went into halftime tied with Fraser 28-28, but a big fourth quarter would propel UAA to their second GNAC victory of the season.

It was also a big Thursday night for the Seawolf men as they defeated Western Oregon 61-57, and handed the Wolves team its first GNAC loss since December of 2017.

The green and gold were led by Sjur Berg who scored a career-high 18 points, and another lights out performance from Tyler Brimhall who had 15 points and 11 rebounds.
