Anchorage (KTUU) It's official. UAA will have 10 athletes representing the Seawolves May 23-25 in Kingsville, Texas at the 2019 NCAA Division II National Track and Field Championships.
Caroline Kurgat will try and defend her titles in the 5,000 and 10,000 meter races. She's the top seed in both events and this will mark her fourth appearance at the outdoor national championships.
She holds the all-time Division II record in the 10,000 at 32:08.09 and has the third-fastest performance all-time in the 5,000 with a time of 15:40.45.
Danielle McCormick is back to try to win a title in the 800 for the third straight year. She's the two-time defending champ in the 800 meter race and won the national title in the race at the 2018 NCAA Indoor National Championships.
Also competing in the 800 for the Seawolves is Ruth Cvancara.
Chrisalyn Johnson is making her debut at the NCAA National championships in both the long and the triple jumps.
Vanessa Aniteye is making her third straight appearance in the 400 at nationals. She's the three time defending GNAC champion in this race.
This year the Seawolves have 2 competitors in the steeplechase: Edwin Kangog and Wesley Kirui.
Nancy Jeptoo will race the 1,500 meters for UAA.
The Seawolves are also sending a women's 4x400 meter relay team to nationals for the third straight year. The team is made up of Vanessa Aniteye, Danielle McCormick, Tylantiss Atlas and Marie Ries.
