ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - The University of Alaska Anchorage’s Edwin Kangogo, Chrisalyn Johnson, and Caroline Kurgat were selected as GNAC athletes of the week Monday.
Kurgat was named Women’s Track Athlete of the Week after she ran 32:08.29 in the 10,000 meters at the Stanford Invite, setting a new NCAA Div. II women’s record. The previous record set by Sylvia Mosqueda of Cal State LA in 1988 was 32:28.57.
Kangogo was named Men’s Track Athlete of the Week after he placed sixth in the steeplechase at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic. His time of 08:56:08 ranks fourth on the GNAC all-time list.
Johnson won her second straight Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honors after setting a new school record in the triple jump, plus a personal best in the long jump at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic.
