Fairbanks (KTUU) Day one of World Eskimo and Indian Olympics kicked off Monday from Fairbanks.
Kyle Worl came back to defend his knee jump title from 2017 and defend it he did, with a jump of 63 and three quarter inches.
But for the women, it was a newcomer who took first place. 23-year-old Veronica McDonald, at her first ever WEIO, wins with a jump of 54 and one quarter inches.
WEIO officially kicked off with the opening ceremonies and with the lighting of the torch.
The events will run all day from July 18th through the 21st.
