ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - The Yukon Quest sled dog race will move its finish line after 13 mushers have already completed the race, due to unsafe conditions on the Chena River coming into downtown Fairbanks.

In a release Wednesday afternoon, the race said overflow and windblown snow contributed to the dangerous conditions.

The race finish line will be moved from downtown Fairbanks to the Nordale Bridge. Race fans who want to see the mushers finish can drive 10 miles down Chena Hotsprings Road, take a right onto Nordale Road and will reach the bridge after a couple more miles.

The change cuts about 14 miles off the length of the trail.

Fourteen mushers were still on the trail as of Wednesday afternoon.
